Hertz — one cycle per second — is the base unit for frequency. Each larger unit is a power of a thousand: 1 kilohertz is 1,000 Hz, 1 megahertz is 1,000,000 Hz, and 1 gigahertz is 1,000,000,000 Hz. Your input is multiplied by its unit's factor to reach hertz, then divided by each other unit's factor to produce the rest of the results.
