How Pressure Converter Works

The pascal is the SI base unit for pressure — one newton of force per square meter. A standard atmosphere is defined as exactly 101,325 pascals, and one PSI (pound per square inch) equals about 6,894.76 pascals, so your input is multiplied by its own factor to reach pascals, then divided by each other unit's factor to fill in the rest of the table.

What's the difference between bar and atmosphere?
They're very close but not identical: 1 bar equals exactly 100,000 pascals, while 1 standard atmosphere equals 101,325 pascals — so 1 atm is about 1.3% higher than 1 bar.
Why is PSI still common if pascal is the standard unit?
PSI (pounds per square inch) remains the everyday unit in the US for tire pressure, plumbing and mechanical specifications, even though the pascal is the internationally standardized SI unit used in most scientific and engineering contexts.
What is torr used for?
Torr, roughly equal to the pressure of 1 millimeter of mercury, is commonly used in vacuum technology, chemistry and medicine (such as blood pressure readings), where very precise low-pressure measurements matter.
Can pressure be a negative number?
Absolute pressure can't go below zero, but gauge pressure (measured relative to atmospheric pressure) can be negative, representing a partial vacuum — this converter treats whatever number you enter as a straightforward magnitude.
